Feed the Mind - Kentucky

Feed the Mind – Kentucky

On April 16, 2014, thousands of fourth-grade students from Central and Eastern Kentucky gathered in Rupp Arena for a celebration of reading and childhood literacy. This second annual event, entitled Feed the Mind – Kentucky, provided each child with a fun and motivational program featuring entertainment by Kentucky authors and storytellers, the University of Kentucky Cheerleaders, ESPN KidsZone and many other special guests. The Feed the Mind – Kentucky event was a part of the fourth annual statewide Kentucky Literacy Celebration.

The Feed the Mind – Kentucky celebration represents the evolution of a smaller annual event, ‘Read Pulaski County,’ that was started in 2011 by the non-profit organization Forward in the Fifth, the Center for Rural Development and members of the business community in Somerset, Kentucky. In its second year, the program was expanded to include schools from both Central and Eastern Kentucky districts. Eventually, it is hoped that similar celebrations could be planned and implemented throughout the Commonwealth.

The 2015 Feed the Mind – Kentucky will be held on Tuesday, September 29, at Rupp Arena. For more information, visit www.feedthemindky.org.
