On Saturday, March 19, in partnership with Operation Care, Kentucky United Methodist Homes, and The Simon House, First Lady Glenna Bevin held the First Annual Hearts to Hands event to empower victims of domestic violence through the building of self-esteem and confidence. This event was made possible by the community thanks to generous donations.
To kick off the day, several women from local domestic abuse shelters and foster children living in group homes were treated to a “spa day” at Afterglow Salon & Spa complete with hairstyling and manicures, as well as a number of take-home salon products. After their salon services, the women and children visited the Governor’s Mansion for a tour and luncheon with the First Lady.
After lunch, the First Lady and the Bevin children helped each attendee decorate gift bags that were made possible by community donations of gift cards from local retailers. Lunch was sponsored by Kroger, and transportation provided by Equestrian Limousine.
"We often hear the Governor's Mansion called 'The People’s House,' but many people have never had the opportunity to visit it, We are so grateful to our generous sponsors and the outpouring of support from the community which allowed us to utilize the mansion to help heal these special women and children. We look forward to doing more Hearts to Hands events to promote and protect Kentucky’s most vulnerable citizens."
